The 1991 digital icon, redrawn in quiet all-white resin.

Casio F-91W

It is hard to name a more quietly perfect object than the F-91W. Designed in 1991 and barely touched since, it keeps time to within a few seconds a month, runs for years on a single battery, weighs almost nothing, and shrugs off a life of being forgotten on wrists and in drawers.

The WB-7A does the only thing this watch ever needed: it removes the colour. An all-white case and strap turn the familiar shape into something closer to a blank, where the small grey LCD and its tidy little typeface do all the talking.

I love it for the same reason designers have always loved it. Nothing here is decorative. Every part earns its place, and the result has outlasted nearly everything launched alongside it.
